He received a scholarship from the European Union and local authorities in Tenerife began studying the double bass at Duncan McTiera at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
In 1992, he joined the Northern Sinfonia of England as a leader basses.
Since 2001, he started his relationship with the Hallé Orchestra, the oldest professional orchestra in the UK, conducted by Sir Mark Elder.

He teaches at the Royal Northern College of Music and master classes in Spain and the United Kingdom. It is the main lecturer at the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, where he is preparing the most talented young musicians in the UK to play in orchestras.
